Project Outline:

To complete a data gathering trial and provide an assessment of the vibration and temperature environment experienced by air countermeasures when deployed on the Typhoon aircraft.

Project Description:

Cranfield Aerospace successfully worked with the Italian Air Force (Aeronautica Militare) to captured data from four sorties of the Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft with air countermeasures deployed. The sorties including a comprehensive range of flight conditions intended to cover aircraft operating limits and specifically included conditions to allow a full evaluation of the vibration and temperature environments. The purpose of this work was to provide a comparison of the vibration and temperature environments experienced by air countermeasures in this installation with the flares vibration and temperature qualification test severities. This provided evidence for clearance of air countermeasures for carriage on Typhoon aircraft during service.
