Project Outline:

To investigate the possible cause of the severe flight vibration experienced by the Defensive Aids Suite (DAS) equipment on Sea King ASaC.

Project Description:

Cranfield Aerospace successfully characterised the structural dynamics of the current DAS installation by means of on-aircraft modal testing and finite element modelling, which confirmed the presence of mechanical resonances of the DAS close to the main forcing frequency generated by this helicopter type. Analysis of the data facilitated the design of modified equipment to alleviate the issue. A prototype of the modified design was trialled successfully.
